This has been revealed in a recent report, the Committee to Protect Journalists said that last year a record number of journalists were killed around the world.

The CPJ said 85 journalists have died at the hands of the Israeli army in the Israel-Gaza war and accused Israel of suppressing investigations into the incidents, blaming journalists, and ignoring its duty to hold people accountable for the killings.

What does the data of 2022 and 2023 say?

According to the CPJ, the IDF has never and will never deliberately target journalists. The number of journalists and media workers killed in 2024 is much higher than in recent years – 102 were killed in 2023 and 69 in 2022.

The previous record high for deaths was in 2007, when 113 journalists lost their lives, almost half of them due to the Iraq war, the committee said. Sudan and Pakistan saw the second-highest number of journalists killed last year, the committee said.
