AFSPA Will Be Removed From Some Areas Of NE States

AFSPA will be removed from some areas of Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland, a big decision of the Modi government.

The Modi government of the country has taken a big decision regarding the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

The Central Government has decided to remove AFSPA from some areas of Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has given this information on Thursday.

Amit Shah tweeted that the Government of India under the decisive leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to reduce the disturbed areas under AFSPA in the states of Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur after decades.

He said in the next tweet that the reduction in AFSPA areas is the result of rapid development due to the improvement in security and the Prime Minister’s constant efforts to bring lasting peace and end insurgency in the North East and several agreements. Thank you Prime Minister.

Shah further said that our Northeast region, which was neglected for decades, is now witnessing a new era of peace, prosperity, and unprecedented development.

I congratulate the people of the Northeast on this momentous occasion.

Significantly, there were indications of the removal of AFSPA from Manipur and Nagaland. Recently, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio had said that AFSPA can be removed from the state.

The CM had said that the central government is considering it. Manipur CM N Biren Singh had also indicated a reduction in AFSPA areas from the state.

What is AFSPA?

The full form of AFSPA is The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. Under this, security forces deployed in disturbed areas get special rights.

Security forces can arrest a person or conduct a search operation without warning. If someone loses his life in the firing during this, then the security forces will not be responsible for that.

AFSPA has been in force for several decades in many disturbed areas of the North-East and Jammu and Kashmir.
