After 27 Years, No Member Of J&K Is In The Rajya Sabha

After 27 years, no member of Jammu and Kashmir is in the Rajya Sabha again, Mir expected, elections will be held soon.

After 27 years in the Rajya Sabha, which is called the upper house of the country, no member is from Jammu and Kashmir. Let us tell you that this is the third time that no one has joined this house.

This situation has arisen recently after the termination of the term of four members of Jammu and Kashmir. Let me also tell you here that such a situation has already happened in Rajya Sabha with other states as well.

The four members whose term in the Rajya Sabha has recently ended are Mir Mohammad Fayaz and Niyaz Ahmed of the PDP party, Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress, and Shamsher Singh of BJP.

However, in 1994 and 1996, there was no representative of Jammu and Kashmir in the Rajya Sabha.

As far as this time is concerned, let me tell you that due to the constitutional changes in Jammu and Kashmir, it has now been converted into two union territories. It has one Jammu and Kashmir and the other is Ladakh.

Significantly, on 21 November 2018, the assembly of Jammu and Kashmir was dissolved by the Governor. After this, assembly elections were to be held there within six months, but it could not happen due to some reasons.

A major reason for this was the change in the assembly areas. It is possible to hold elections there only after delimitation takes place. Now, while Ladakh is a new union territory, a new assembly is to be formed there too.

At present, due to the absence of assembly in both places, there is not enough basis for electing members of the Rajya Sabha.

Therefore, for some time the High House of the Parliament of the country will remain deprived of the representatives of these two states.

It is being said by the government that the changes in the assembly segments of these two states will be completed by March this year.

Speaking to the media former Rajya Sabha MP of PDP Mohammad Fayaz has told that the situation would not have arisen if the Central Government had recently conducted elections for the District Development Council and Panchayat.

The situation was absolutely normal in these elections. Despite this, they are hopeful that elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted by the end of this engagement.

He also told that he will also need to meet the Lieutenant Governor on behalf of his party for early elections in the state.
