Assam Anti-CAA protests: In Assam, 1,026 people were arrested in 12 days in anti-CAA protests, the Chief Minister gave information in the assembly.
A total of 1,026 people were arrested in 12 days during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in December 2019.
Of these, 11 were arrested under UA(P)A. This information was given in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while giving a written reply to a question by Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi said that in 2019 from December 9 to 20, a total of 88 policemen and 20 civilians were injured.
There were 25 incidents of firing while tear gas shells were fired at 19 and 15 places of lathi charge.
An NIA probe was ordered against six of the 11 people against whom cases were registered under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
Amendment introduced to make animal bill stricter.
The state government introduced an amendment in the assembly to make the Assam Animal Protection Act 2021 more stringent.
Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary introduced the bill in the House on the first day of the winter session of the Assembly.
Law can be made against frenzied mob violence.
The Assam government said that on the lines of Manipur, Rajasthan, and Bengal, it would consider a proposal to bring a bill against hysterical mob violence in this state as well.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Piyush Hazarika gave this information while replying to the issue of making a law to stop incidents of frenzied mob violence.
Campaign to clear the Assam-Nagaland border.
A peaceful campaign was conducted to remove around 3000 encroachers along the Assam-Nagaland border.
On Monday, the Karbi Anglong district administration and the district’s autonomous council carried out this campaign.
Significantly, there were demonstrations in many cities of the country including the national capital Delhi against the CAA.
