Atal Tunnel Is Ready,Will Be Inaugurated In September

Atal tunnel is ready, from a strategic point of view, it is special. Atal Tunnel in Rohtang is almost ready. It is believed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this tunnel in September, for which the date is being finalized. Earlier it was named Rohtang Tunnel, which was later renamed after former Prime Minister of the country Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

This tunnel 9 km long is located at an altitude of 10 thousand feet (about 3 thousand meters). It is the longest tunnel in the world built at such a height. This will reduce the distance between Leh and Manali by 46 km. It is also considered very important from a strategic point of view. The tunnel was to be completed in May this year, but it was delayed due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

The project progressed in this way and reached such a place

The study started for the project in May 1990
According to Border Roads Organization (BRO) officials, the project received final technical approval in 2003.
Geological report on the project was submitted in June 2004
The tender was invited in 2007 after approval of Cabinet Committee on Security in 2005
The project design and specification report were finalized in December 2006.
This tunnel started being built in June 2010
The project was to be completed in February 2015 but was delayed due to various reasons.
Initially, the project was 8.8 km long, but GPS readings were taken after completion show 9 km long

Distance will be completed in 10 minutes

Due to tunnel created by cutting the hills of Pir Panjal, a distance of 46 km has been reduced. This tunnel provides an alternative route to the Rohtang Pass at 13,050 feet. It takes about 5 hours to reach Lahaul and Spiti Valley from Manali Valley, now it will be completed in about 10 minutes.

Also, it is nothing less than a boon for the people of Lahaul and Spiti Valley, which were cut off from the rest of the country for about six months in winter every year during heavy snowfall. Easy to carry weapons and rations: This becomes important during the ongoing standoff with China. Now there will be better contact with the troops deployed in Ladakh.

They will be able to deliver weapons and logistics in a short time. Another tunnel is also being constructed under this tunnel for emergency situations. It is being built to deal with any unpleasant situation and will serve as an emergency exit under special circumstances.
