Attack In Somalia: At Least 18 People Killed In Al Shabaab Attack

Attack In Somalia: At least 18 people were killed in the Al Shabaab attack in Somalia.

The attacks took place overnight in the central region of Somalia. In these attacks, al-Shabaab militants killed at least 18 civilians and destroyed trucks carrying relief supplies.

Residents and a state news agency gave this information on Saturday.

The Islamist group launched an attack in the Hiran region in the semi-autonomous state of Hirschbele in central Somalia.

Residents said the trucks were carrying food supplies from the town of Baldwen to the town of Mahas.

Farah Aden, a local elder, told Reuters over the phone that al-Shabaab killed and burned 18 civilians. The elder said that several trucks of relief food were going to Mahas city last night.

Attack In Somalia: State news agency Sona reported that al-Shabaab fighters had torched trucks carrying relief materials in Mahas and killed most of the people in the vehicles.

Al Qaeda-linked Islamist groups have been fighting Somalia’s central government for more than a decade. It seeks to establish its own rule based on a strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.

The group frequently conducts bombings, gun attacks, and other attacks on both military and civilian targets.

Last month, more than 20 people were killed in an attack in which al-Shabaab fighters stormed the Hyatt Hotel in Mogadishu.

After which the fighting lasted for about 30 hours as government troops demanded the release of the siege and free hostages.

Aden said armed residents had chased the rebels out of the area last week, but said the government had not sent troops to help prevent the fighters from returning.

Aden said Al-Shabaab is doing all these things to make us surrender. But we will not surrender to al-Shabaab as long as we have the soul. Government forces have not yet reached the spot.
