Election Commission representatives announced on Friday that Tejashwi Surya, a BJP MP, has been the subject of a formal complaint over alleged hate speech on social media.

The move has been taken following a complaint filed by the election body and Bruhat Bengaluru Municipal Corporation (BBMP) officials.

Tejasvi Surya is an MP from Bengaluru South and is also the President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Recently, in a post, he had allegedly targeted a minority and spread enmity between two communities.

He had made a similar post on ‘X’ and YouTube on March 19, which received 10 lakh views, 587 comments, 5400 retweets, and 13 likes.

In this case, it was further alleged that he has 13 lakh followers on ‘X’, due to which he is influencing the voters and disturbing the communal harmony between the communities.

Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered at Halasuru Gate Police Station under sections 153A, 295A, and Representation of the People Act on March 20.
