CBI caught Joint Drugs Controller taking bribe, know what is the whole matter.
The CBI on Monday caught Joint Drugs Controller S Easwar Reddy of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) for accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh.
Reddy is accused of accepting a bribe for giving favorable entry of Diabetes Injection to Biocon Biologics.
It is said that after getting information about this transaction, the CBI team laid a trap, in which Reddy was taken into custody along with the middleman.
It is a subsidiary of Kiran Mazumdar Shaw-led Biocon.
It is alleged that Reddy had demanded a bribe of Rs 9 lakh for giving a favorable report of diabetes injection. A Biocon spokesperson did not comment on this.
Many people have been criminally booked.
CBI has registered a case of criminal conspiracy and corruption against Reddy and Dinesh Dua, Director of Synergy Network India Pvt Ltd.
Apart from this, a case under various criminal sections has also been registered against Guljit Sethi, Director of another company BioInnovate Research Service Pvt Ltd.
L Praveen Kumar, Associate Vice President of Biocon Biologics Ltd Bangalore, and an Assistant Drug Inspector Animesh Kumar.
CBI raids at many places.
The investigating agency had received information that people of some private companies were trying to pressurize the officials to not allow the Phase III trial of their injections.
Efforts are being made to give a huge amount as bribes for this. CBI has raided 11 places including Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Patna, and Bangalore in this regard.
An official said, “Phase 3 clinical trials are an important regulatory mechanism to assess the safety of a pharma product. Any attempt to close them could have serious public health safety consequences.
The CBI has alleged that the regulatory work of Biocon Biologics was overseen by Guljit Sethi of BioInnovate Research Services Pvt Ltd.
CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said, “The CBI has laid a trap in which the JDC of CDSCO was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from the director of a private company in Delhi.
The said director was also caught. He said the CBI conducted searches at 11 places in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Patna, and Bengaluru, in which incriminating documents and articles were recovered.
