CBI Investigation In 588 Cases Pending For Last One Year

CBI investigation in 588 cases pending for last one year, The Union government gave information in Rajya Sabha.

The Central Government has informed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that 588 regular cases (RCs) investigations have been pending by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the last year.

This figure is as of December 31, 2020. As of December 31, 2019, the figure was 711. Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh gave this information in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.

In 2020 there were six such cases against political persons.

It said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigates complex and voluntary cases against public servants, firms, banks, private individuals, which at times are related to very old transactions or incidents.

Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh told the Rajya Sabha that many of these cases involve investigations spanning several states and union territories.

In addition, cases are pending for a long time for an expert opinion. Performance cases, Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), etc. have been pending for a long time.

The situation arising out of the Corona epidemic has also adversely affected the speed of investigation of cases. Every effort is made by CBI to handle these cases on priority.

1,374 posts vacant in CBI

The Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh also told the Rajya Sabha that 1,374 posts were vacant in CBI till 31 December 2020.

Out of 7,273 sanctioned posts, 5,899 have been filled. Of the 5,000 posts of executive rank, 4,171 were filled. The total capacity was 284 and 66 as against the sanctioned posts of 370 and 162 respectively for the legal and ministerial ranks.

Of the 1,671 ministerial posts, 1,353 were filled. The staff of the canteen working with the investigating agency was 25, while 70 posts were sanctioned. From time to time, active efforts are made to fill the vacant posts in all ranks quickly.
