Center tells Supreme Court – ‘Process to declare Ram Sethu a national monument is ongoing’.

The Supreme Court has given the central government four weeks to explain its position on the petition to recognize Ram Sethu as a historic site.

In this regard, the Center told the Supreme Court that the process of declaring ‘Ram Sethu’ a national heritage site is still ongoing at the Ministry of Culture.

In fact, plaintiff Subramaniam Swamy has requested an early hearing on the petition to recognize Ram Sethu as a historic site in 2020.

The Supreme Court told BJP leader Subramanian Swamy that he can also file any other document or documents related to the matter with the Department.

The court told Swamy that if he wanted he could meet with the Center and investigate, but Swamy said, “I don’t want to see anyone, we’re in the same party, that’s already in our manifesto.

” Let them decide in six weeks or whatever. I’ll come back.”

Will find another way for the sea project.

Plaintiff Swamy said he won the first round of litigation, whereby Ram Setu’s existence was accepted by the central government.

Swamy raised the issue of declaring Ram Sethu a national monument in his PIL against the controversial Sethusamudram waterway project.

The case then went to the Supreme Court, after which work on the project on Ram Sethu was stopped. Later, the Center said it wanted to find another route for the sea project without harming Ramsetu.

The court then asked the government to make a new affidavit. The Sethusamudram ship canal project is facing opposition from several political parties, environmentalists, and some Hindu religious groups.

Rama Setu, also known as Adam’s Bridge, is a limestone causeway between Pamban Island off the southeast coast of Tamil Nadu and Mannar Island off the northwest coast of Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka.

A bench of three judges said Judge PS Narasimha would not participate in the proceedings because he appeared as an attorney in the case.

Therefore, the order in this matter was given by two judges, CJI and Judge Pardiwala. Earlier, the Supreme Court said it would hear Swamy’s plea in the second week of February.

On November 13, 2019, the Supreme Court gave the Center six weeks to explain its position towards Ram Sethu. It also gives Swamy the freedom to go to court if the Center’s response is not filed.
