Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand on Tuesday said a child trafficking racket has been busted in the city with the arrest of seven people.

He said that doctors’ involvement is also suspected in this. A 20-day-old baby was rescued when the gang was spotted under suspicious circumstances in Rajarajeshwari Nagar here.

Those arrested have been identified as Suhasini, Gomathi, Kannan Ramaswamy, Hemalatha, Sharanya, Mahalakshmi, and Radha.

Police sources said that a case has been registered at Rajarajeshwari Nagar police station.

The gang has sold 10 children so far.

The gang was allegedly involved in stealing and then selling newborn babies to childless couples at “high prices”.

Most of the children sold in Bengaluru are suspected to have been brought from neighboring Tamil Nadu.

“This is a big racket in which trafficked children are sold to childless parents for Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh,” the police commissioner told reporters.

“Central Crime Branch inquiries have revealed that they have now Till now 10 children have been sold.”

Some doctors from Tamil Nadu were also included in the gang.

According to him, there is a big network behind this racket and it also includes some doctors from Tamil Nadu.

The Police Commissioner said, “This gang was doing this for many years but recently their activities came to light.” “We have taken him into police custody and are interrogating him.”

Some doctors are also involved in this racket.

He said that the gang was also providing fake documents to childless parents after selling the children.

Regarding the potential involvement of healthcare facilities and retirement communities, Dayanand stated, “We have learned that certain medical professionals are also part of this scheme.

We are looking into the involvement of Tamil Nadu doctors.”
