China Keeps Close Watch On Jaishankar-Pompeo’s Talks

China keeps a close watch on Jaishankar-Pompeo’s phone talks, worried about China’s interference in the Indo-Pacific region. Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and his US counterpart Mike Pompeo spoke on the phone on a number of burning international issues. During this time the two leaders also discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation between India and America.

During the talks, it also expressed concern over the Corona epidemic and China’s growing dominance in the Indo-Pacific region. A senior US official said that the two leaders were of the opinion on the stability and peace of the Indo-Pacific region. Both leaders supported the stability of the region.

Serious talks on Chinese interference in the Indo-Pacific region

The US stressed India’s active and influential role in the Indo-Pacific region. With this, the two leaders had a detailed discussion on the modalities of mutual cooperation in this field. The two leaders said that the way Chinese interference is increasing in this entire region is a matter of concern for the whole world. This has created a crisis in the stability of the region.

Chinese interest in the region has completely eroded its strategic balance. The US Secretary of State said that China is eyeing its natural resources. With this, he also wants to use this area strategically. Therefore, China is continuously engaged in increasing its dominance in the region.

Consent on cooperation for ministerial talks also

Jaishankar and Pompeo agreed to continue full cooperation on regional and international issues. The two leaders also agreed to cooperate for the US-India 2 + 2 ministerial dialogue later this year.

Let us tell you that the first 2 + 2 talks were held in New Delhi in September 2018 after the mechanism was approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.
An initiative of both countries three years ago

In November 2017, India, the US, Australia, and Japan shaped the long-pending Quadrilateral Alliance to develop a new strategy to keep vital sea lanes in the Indo-Pacific region free of Chinese influence. The issue was widely discussed during the third round of the Indo-US maritime security dialogue to be held in Goa in 2018.
