Controversial amendment in the Kerala Police Act repealed, the government decided. The Kerala government has repealed the controversial amendment to the Police Act.

The ordinance related to this was signed by Governor Arif Muhammad Khan on Wednesday.

There was a controversy about this amendment in the police law and it was said to be an attack on freedom of expression and freedom of media.

After the controversy escalated, the state’s Left Front government said on Tuesday that it would bring an ordinance to withdraw this amendment.

The ordinance was then sent to the Governor to abolish Section 118-A of the Kerala Police Act at the Cabinet meeting, who signed the ordinance on Wednesday.

The state government said that this amendment has been done to protect women and children from cybercrime.

It had a provision of imprisonment of up to five years for posting abusive posts against women on internet media platforms.

It was opposed by the opposition parties against the freedom of the media. CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury also told reporters in Delhi on Monday that it would be considered.

It was only after this that the Pinarayi Vijayan government decided to withdraw it.

Shivkumar appeared before CBI in case of disproportionate assets

Karnataka unit president DK Shivakumar appeared before the CBI officials in Bengaluru on Wednesday. He appeared for questioning in the disproportionate assets case lodged against him.

The CBI had issued a notice to Shivkumar on November 19 and called him on November 23, but he cited pre-decided meetings in Bellary, Muskie, and Basava Kalyan. Some time was sought.

Accepting the plea, CBI officials had asked him to appear on Wednesday. Before the presentation, Shivkumar said that he would fully cooperate with the officials of the country’s premier investigative agency.

Congress MLA Shivkumar told his supporters that there is no need to panic and he did not do any wrong thing, which has to face slander.

On October 5, CBI conducted searches at 14 locations in the case. Premises involving Sivakumar and others in Karnataka, Delhi, and Mumbai were searched.
