Declaration To End The Nuclear War And Arms Race By 5 Nations

Declaration to end the nuclear war and arms race by five nations, UN Secretary-General praised the joint statement.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the five-nation joint statement aimed at preventing nuclear war and ending the arms race.

Declaration to end the nuclear war and arms race: Guterres’ spokesman Stephane Dujarric said:

“The Secretary-General while appreciating the recommendations of the five nuclear-armed nations, stressed the need to give effect to bilateral and multilateral non-proliferation, disarmament and arms control agreements.”

He said countries should show commitment to meet their obligations under the Non-Proliferation Agreement on nuclear disarmament.

The Secretary-General reiterated his desire to work with nuclear-armed states to achieve the goal of nuclear disarmament.

It is noteworthy that China, Russia, Britain, France, and the US, the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (P5), issued a joint statement for the first time on Monday, saying that nuclear war should never happen and it cannot be won.

According to the statement, ‘nuclear war will have fatal consequences. We want to assert that nuclear weapons should be used for defense, for de-escalation and to prevent war, as long as they last.

Declaration to end the nuclear war and arms race: China denies allegations of expanding nuclear weapons.

According to Pretr, Director General of the Arms Control Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Fu Kang, on Tuesday rejected the US claim that the Asian country was rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal.

Not only this, he claimed that he was also instrumental in issuing a joint statement on behalf of the five nuclear-armed nations on Monday.

The US Defense Department said in its report in November that China was rapidly expanding its nuclear weapons and by 2030 the number of such weapons available with it would exceed 1,000.

The US currently has 3,750 nuclear weapons.
