Jaishankar Warns Bangladesh
Do Not Take Terrorism Lightly: Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar warns Bangladesh against taking terrorism lightly while criticizing Pakistan’s role in SAARC. Find out how India is addressing regional security concerns.
‘Do not take terrorism lightly’, Jaishankar reprimanded Bangladesh; also showed the mirror to Pakistan. Ever since the interim government of Bangladesh led by Professor Yunus Mohammad came to power, it has been trying to create an atmosphere in favor of the SAARC organization. In such a situation, India has tried to explain to Bangladesh in a warning tone that it should not take an issue like terrorism in a normal way.
This was said by Foreign Minister S Jaishankar himself to Tauheed Hussain, Advisor on Foreign Affairs (equivalent to Foreign Minister) in the Bangladesh government. This was revealed by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday.
Along with this, the Ministry of External Affairs has expressed displeasure over the issue of continuous statements being made against the interests of India by some advisors of the interim government and said that this will harm the efforts to improve bilateral relations.
Jaiswal said, ‘When Foreign Minister Jaishankar met Bangladesh’s Tauheed Hussain in Muscat (Doha), the issue of Bangladesh was raised. But we all know which country and what kind of activities of the SAARC organization are responsible for the current situation of SAARC. Foreign Minister Jaishankar made it clear that Bangladesh should not take the issue of terrorism in a normal way.’
After the said meeting, the statement issued by the Indian Foreign Ministry said that bilateral issues as well as the BIMSTEC conference were discussed in it. But Bangladesh had said that there was talk about starting the meeting of the SAARC organization.
It should be noted that the meeting of SAARC countries has been postponed since the year 2016. Then, protesting the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorist organizations in many terrorist attacks on India, not only India but also other SAARC members including Afghanistan and Bangladesh decided not to participate in the SAARC summit to be held in Islamabad in December 2016.
Professor Yunus spoke to Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif on the phone a few days after assuming power in August 2024 and supported the resumption of the SAARC organization. After this, when the two leaders met, SAARC was also discussed.
Not only on the issue of SAARC but also on other issues, Bangladesh is trying to indicate that it is with Pakistan. The imports from Pakistan which were banned during the tenure of former PM Sheikh Hasina citing internal security have been opened.
