Efforts are being made to bake political loaves on the Nagaland incident, the responsibility of the government increased in the Northeast.

The unintentional killing of 14 civilians by the security forces in Nagaland is a very sad incident.

Unfortunately, the militants active there and their supporters are trying to distort the facts of the incident to gain political mileage.

The incident took place in Nagaland’s Mon district, which is the Konayak Naga region.

Konayak Nagas are generally supportive of the government. According to the information, some workers were returning home from the coal mine in a pickup van.

The security forces had information that the militants of the NSCN(K) faction were about to pass through the area.

The soldiers of the army signaled to stop the car, but the driver made the car run faster. The soldiers got suspicious and opened fire, in which eight workers were killed.

Local villagers came after hearing the sound of firing. Seeing the bodies of the workers, they got agitated and retaliated.

The soldiers then retaliated by firing in self-defense, killing six other villagers and one soldier. Many soldiers were also injured.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the Army has ordered a Court of Inquiry headed by Major General.

The state government has also constituted a special investigation team and directed it to complete the investigation within a month.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the incident in Parliament as “unfortunate” and said that the accident happened due to mistaken identity.

It is necessary to mention here that such incidents in the suppression of rebels keep happening all over the world.
