ED attached land worth Rs 6 crore in a PMLA case related to illegal coal mining in Bengal.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached a plot worth Rs 6 crore in Kolkata in connection with a case related to illegal coal mining in Bengal.
The ED had registered a case under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after perusing a Central Bureau of Investigation FIR dated November 2020.
The CBI FIR had alleged that a scam of coal manipulation worth crores of rupees took place from the mines of Eastern Coalfield Limited located in Kunustoria and Kajora areas in and around Asansol.
Local Anoop Majhi alias Lala was the prime suspect in this case.
The ED had claimed that Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Diamond Harbor MP Abhishek Banerjee was the beneficiary of money earned from illegal business.
Abhishek Banerjee is the nephew of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The agency issued a statement here saying that the land attached by it is jointly owned by West End Pigments & Chemicals Pvt Ltd and Deshpran Properties Ltd and is located on Deshpran Shasmal Road in Kolkata.
The ED claimed that the investigation revealed that advance payment of Rs 6 crore for the purchase of this property was made from the accounts of LTB Infraconsultant Pvt Ltd.
It alleged that the source of the alleged amount was the pecuniary gain from the crime and the amount was deposited in the form of cash in the bank accounts of LTB Infraconsultants Pvt Ltd.
The owners of this company are Vinay Mishra and Vikas Mishra.
Vikas Mishra has been arrested earlier in this case by the ED and his brother and TMC youth wing leader Vinay Mishra is believed to have left the country some time ago and he Probably gave up Indian citizenship as well.
The agency has also arrested Inspector Ashok Kumar Mishra, former in-charge of Bankura police station in this case.
After this new action of the agency, assets worth Rs 171.86 crore have been attached so far in the case.
