Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jagmohan passed away, PM Modi and Amit Shah expressed grief.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Jagmohan Malhotra died on Monday night. He was 94. He breathed his last in Delhi.

Jagmohan, who was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, had also been a Union Minister besides being the Governor. Jagmohan was also elected in the Lok Sabha. He also held the post of Minister of Urban Development and Tourism.

He was twice elected the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. He held the post from 1984 to 1989 and again from January to May in 1990. Jagmohan was first sent by the Congress government in 1984 as governor.

During the first innings, he remained the Governor till June 1989. Then VP Singh Sarkar again sent him as Governor in January 1990.

He held this post till May 1990. Jagmohan Malhotra later ventured into politics. He also became a minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

PM Modi condoled his death. He tweeted and wrote that the death of Jagmohan Ji is a great loss for our nation. He was an exemplary administrator and a noted scholar.

He always worked towards the betterment of India. Innovative policy formulation was done during his tenure. My condolences to his family and fans.

Home Minister Amit Shah said that Jagmohanji will always be remembered for his remarkable tenure as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

An able administrator and later a dedicated politician who took important decisions for the peace and progress of the nation. India mourns his death. My deepest condolences to his family. om Shanti.

Born in 1927, Jagmohan was also an LG of Delhi. Jagmohan Malhotra was tasked with beautifying the capital during the Emergency.

He was also Governor of Goa, Daman, and Diu for some time. Later, he was the Governor of the undivided Jammu and Kashmir State from 1984 to 1989.

During that time he took strict steps against extremism spreading in Jammu and Kashmir.

While governor, Jagmohan made a number of tough decisions in the valley. Strategized the operation against the terrorists. The Kashmiri Pandits also tried to stop the atrocities.

It is to be known that when the BJP started the contact campaign after removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

Amit Shah and the current BJP President JP Nadda had reached his home in Chanakyapuri to meet former J&K Governor Jagmohan Malhotra. Amit Shah started the contact campaign with a meeting with Jagmohan.
