Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh In ED Custody

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in ED’s custody. Anil Deshmukh, arrested in a money laundering case, was taken to hospital for a medical checkup.

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was arrested by ED in a money laundering case in Maharashtra.

On Thursday he was taken to the Government JJ Hospital for a medical examination. An official gave this information. The official said that his health is stable.

Deshmukh is currently in the custody of the ED, where he is being questioned in the money laundering case.

The NCP leader was brought out of the ED’s office around 12 noon and taken to a hospital in south Mumbai, the official said.

He was regularly examined at the hospital between 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm, after which he went back to the ED’s office, the official said.

There was an arrest in this case.

Deshmukh (71) was arrested by the ED late on Monday night after interrogation for more than 12 hours in the money laundering case.

The former minister had skipped several summons issued by the ED in the case, but after the Bombay High Court refused to quash them last week, he appeared before the agency on Monday.

A special holiday court here on Tuesday sent him to ED custody till November 6.

The ED had told the court that Deshmukh was the “main beneficiary” of the proceeds of the crime and was directly involved in the offense of money laundering.

The central agency, in its remand note, said that the NCP has been accused of collecting Rs 100 crore.

The ED had told the court that Deshmukh’s custodial interrogation is the need of the hour for the investigation, and the entire money transaction needs to be established to bring the culprits to justice.

Know what is the matter.

The CBI had launched an investigation against Deshmukh and his associates on April 21 this year after registering an FIR against the NCP leader on charges of corruption and abuse of official position.

Deshmukh had earlier denied these allegations and said that the agency’s entire affair was based on malicious statements made by a tainted cop (Sachin Waze).

The ED had earlier arrested Sanjeev Palande (an additional collector rank officer who was working as Deshmukh’s personal secretary) and Kundan Shinde (Deshmukh’s personal assistant) in the case.

The case against Deshmukh and others was created after the CBI registered a corruption case related to allegations of bribery of at least Rs 100 crore made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir.

The agency had filed a complaint against Palande and Shinde by the prosecution before a special court last month.
