The Anti-Terrorism Court has sentenced two convicts to death in the case of gang-rape of a French woman in Pakistan.
The incident took place on the Lahore-Sialkot route in September 2020. The incident was followed by heavy protests across the country. People openly demanded the culprits be hanged.
In the incident, a French woman of Pakistani origin was gang-raped by Abid Malhi and Shafaqat Bagga in front of her three children.
The woman’s car was parked on the side of the highway as petrol ran out. At the same time, the two convicts reached there and broke the lock of the car, and carried out the crime.
The culprits who escaped after the incident were arrested by the police after a month-long operation. Their involvement in the crime was proved with their DNA sample.
Arshad Hussain Bhutta, Judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court, along with sentencing Malhi and Bagga to death, has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on them.
The court has also sentenced the two to life imprisonment and five years imprisonment for breaking the lock of the car in the robbery case. It has also been ordered to confiscate the property of both the convicts.
According to the police, both the accused had also looted cash and gold jewelery worth more than Rs 1 lakh held by the woman.
