German President Calls The Afghan Crisis Shameful For The West

German President calls the Afghan crisis shameful for the West, blames everyone for the tragedy.

German President Frank Walter Steinmeier has said that the pictures of people fleeing Kabul are a matter of shame for Western countries.

He said that this is a human tragedy and we all have to take responsibility for it. Germany was the second country after the US to have the largest number of troops in Afghanistan.

Germany is also making constant efforts to evacuate its people. Due to the chaos at Kabul airport on Monday, only seven people could be brought to Berlin.

However, 120 people were brought home on Tuesday by another plane that went later.

On the other hand, the European Union has said that it can consider working with the Taliban if it pledges to protect the fundamental rights of other people, including women.

The statement came after an emergency meeting of the European Union convened on the Afghan crisis.

Czech President questions the existence of NATO.

After the failure of NATO in Afghanistan, Czech President Milos Zeman has questioned its existence.

He said that instead of wasting money on the alliance, he would focus on the national security of the country.

Zaman, who has a soft stance towards Russia and China, had announced for some time to increase the country’s defense budget by two percent.

If there is terrorist activity then the option of attack is open.

NATO warned on Tuesday that if the Taliban allowed Afghanistan’s soil to be used for terrorist activities, it was open to attack it.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said it was now the responsibility of those in power to ensure that international terrorists could not set foot there again.

Gorbachev said America’s failure was already decided.

The then-Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev has said that it was already certain that the US and NATO security forces would not succeed in Afghanistan.

He also accused Washington of not handling the Afghan problem properly. The former Soviet leader said that he should have accepted his failure much earlier.

What is still most important though is what lessons he learns from it. It was during the reign of Gorbachev that the then Soviet army withdrew from Afghanistan in 1989.

He considered sending the army there as his political mistake.

Discussion should be held in the G-7 group: Johnson.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says that the Afghan crisis should be discussed in the G-7 group as soon as possible.

He has demanded to call a virtual meeting for this. He said this after speaking to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday.

Talking to all sides including the Taliban: Turkey.

Turkish Foreign Minister Melut Kevshoglu has said that his country is in talks with all parties, including the Taliban, in Afghanistan.

The attitude of the Taliban so far is welcome. He also said that Turkey has withdrawn its earlier plan to secure Kabul airport.
