Gilgit Baltistan elections: public opposition in voting, no party got absolute majority in trends.
The controversial election of Gilgit Baltistan, a part of POK, was finally completed. In the early trends, no political party is getting an absolute majority here.
However, in this election, Pakistan is leading in eight seats out of 24 seats in Gilgit-Baltistan in Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) election.
Independent candidates are leading in six constituencies. The Pakistani Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) leads in two constituencies. Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (F) (JUI-F) is leading in a constituency.
Local protest against Pak government’s decision
Explain that despite all the protests, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced temporary-provincial status to change the situation in Gilgit-Baltistan.
This decision of the Imran government led to a fierce protest in Gilgit-Baltistan. People here say that they will never accept Pakistan’s involvement in their region. Its effect was also reflected in the voting.
No political party got an absolute majority. On the other hand, the Pakistan People’s Party has once again demanded that the ruling PTI candidates be disqualified for rigging the election.
The election was postponed due to the Corona epidemic
Despite strong opposition from the opposition in Pakistan, the voting process was completed in Gilgit-Baltistan. Tight security arrangements were made during the voting in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Voting began at eight in the morning and continued till five in the evening without a break. Elections in Gilgit-Baltistan were to be held on August 18.
But on July 11, Pakistan’s Election Commission postponed them due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Indian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Shrivastava opposed this election process.
He said that there is no legal basis for changing the situation of Gilgit-Baltistan as alleged by Pakistan. He said that this step of the Government of Pakistan is completely illegal and irresponsible.
330 candidates in 23 assembly seats
Let us know that in 24 seats of Gilgit-Baltistan, only 23 seats were voted. There are 330 candidates in the fray. Four women are also in the fray.
PPP has fielded 23 candidates in the fray, while 21 candidates are in the fray in PML-N. Of the total 1,141 polling stations, 577 have been declared sensitive and 297 are highly sensitive.
More than 15,000 security personnel from Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan have been deployed at polling stations. However, the army has not been deployed in the election.
