Government Will Soon Bring Bill For Delimitation In Four States

Government will soon bring a bill for delimitation in four states of Northeast. The Central Government has listed a bill for discussion in the forthcoming monsoon session of Parliament to give legal support to the Delimitation Commission recently constituted for the four states of the Northeast.

The Bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha states that the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2020 will amend Article Eight-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

In March this year, the Law Ministry had issued a Delimitation Commission notification for the redrawing of Lok Sabha and Assembly segments in Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Apart from this, the Delimitation Commission was also constituted for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In June, SK Mendiratta, a former legal expert of the Election Commission, told the Election Commission that the notification was illegal.

He had said that under Article Eight-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, the Election Commission has the right to limit the four states of the North-East.

Meanwhile, more than a hundred teachers who lost jobs after the Supreme Court declared their appointments illegal, staged a fierce demonstration in Khumulwng area of West Tripura district on Thursday, and demanded an alternative job.

Hundreds of people attended the protest on Thursday and blocked the roads. A large number of protesters present here were holding posters in their hands.

One of the protesters said, “Before the 2018 elections, we came to know that many promises were made by the Education Minister and the Chief Minister, but after the Bharatiya Janata Party came to power, we are not fulfilling their promises. ”

The protester said, “They promised that they would revise the law and find a permanent solution for our jobs, but no solution has been found so far. Our main demand is that we want the immediate implementation of alternative jobs.

If our If the demand is not met then we will be forced to hold a big protest. ” Last month, the Supreme Court upheld Tripura’s dismissal of 8,882 ad hoc teachers. They were all employed in the school education department.
