Heavy Rain May Occur Again In Kerala Today

Heavy rain may occur again in Kerala today, Orange alert was issued in 11 districts.

Three gates of Cheruthoni dam under Kerala’s Idukki reservoir were opened on Tuesday amid heavy rain forecast in Kerala today.

Earlier, the gates of Idamalayar in Ernakulam and Pampa Dam at Pathanamthitta were opened when the water level crossed the danger mark.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 11 districts of the state including Kollam, Alappuzha, and Kasaragod.

This means that these districts may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, ie 64.5 to 204.4 mm, on Wednesday. The state has received 135 percent excess rainfall between October 1 and 19.

The Kerala State Electricity Board said on its Facebook page that the gates of the Cheruthoni dam were last opened three years ago.

The gates were raised by 35 cm in the presence of State Energy Minister K Krishnankutty and Water Resources Minister Roshi Augustine. “Things are peaceful at the moment,” Augustine told reporters.

The water flowing from the dams is flowing normally. At present, the water coming into the dam has been reduced.

Krishnankutty said that the shutters have been opened on the basis of scientific data. He said, ‘It is not decided by the leaders, but by the experts.

Heavy rain may occur again in Kerala today: BJP and Congress attacked the Left government.

Opposition BJP and Congress have attacked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, accusing the ruling Left government in Kerala of failure in flood management.

Leader of the Opposition VD Satishan said that the ‘Room for River’ project was announced by the Chief Minister during his visit to the Netherlands in May 2019, which has not been implemented yet.

BJP state president K. Sudarshan alleged that the government’s ambitious project ‘Rebuild Kerala’ has come to a complete standstill.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Vijayan has advised people to take shelter in higher areas.

Even though more than a week has passed since the departure of the monsoon from the country, but the weather conditions remain rough.

A Western Disturbance from the Arabian Sea has broken into Uttarakhand and Kerala. Hundreds of people lost their lives in both states in just two days due to rain.

Roads were blocked due to landslides at places. The rivers are close to the danger mark. Life has become derailed.

Talking about Uttarakhand, so much rain has never been recorded here in October. According to the Meteorological Department, this is an all-time record.

On average, Uttarakhand has received more than 400 mm of rain since October 1, as against 170 mm earlier in the year 2009. Normally, the state receives about 30 mm of rain in October.
