ICC new rules 2025-27
ICC new rules 2025-27: ICC introduces stop clock rule in Test matches to speed up over rates. New rules include penalties, ball change limits, and short run fines in WTC 2025-27.
ICC announces new rules in international cricket, starts stop clock in Test matches. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced the stop clock rule in Test cricket to tackle the problem of slow over pace. As per the playing conditions of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, if a full run is not scored deliberately, it will be decided by the fielding team as to which batsman will face the bowler.
These new rules will come into force from the 2025-2027 WTC cycle, which began with the first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Gale. Stop clocks will be used to tackle the problem of slow over pace even in longer formats like limited overs cricket, as per the playing conditions of the Test match available on the ICC website.

The ICC said the fielding team must be ready to start the next over within 60 seconds of the completion of the previous over. The electronic clock will appear on the field, counting down from zero to 60 seconds. The fielding team will then be given two warnings. The batting team will be given five penalty runs for the third time. These cautions will be nullified again after 80 overs are completed, the ICC said.
