The body of Pakistani dissident and women’s rights activist Karima Baloch was buried in her village in south-west Balochistan on Sunday, 25 January under tight security.

Scared of the protests and discontent, government agencies allowed only the nearby members of the Baloch to attend the funeral. During this time the mobile phone service was also discontinued.

Karima’s brother Sameer Mehrab tweeted, “Pakistan Army allowed women to bury Karima’s shroud but I am happy because Karima continues to raise her voice for women’s empowerment.”

Karima Baloch, 37, had been in exile in Canada since 2016. Her body was found on December 22 last year, a day after his disappearance, near a lake in Toronto. The Pakistani intelligence agency was reported responsible for Karima’s death.
