India and UK to emphasize strategy to end terrorism will work together in the Security Council.

Prior to assuming office as a temporary member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India has discussed the priorities with the UK.

The two countries exchanged views on the agenda of this world’s most powerful entity. India will also continue its campaign against terrorism in the Security Council.

Five countries, including Britain, are permanent members of the Security Council. Terrorism was mainly discussed in this dialogue through video conferencing.

The two countries discussed the growing effects of terrorism and its prevention measures. Indian officials told their British counterparts about their agenda.

India’s emphasis will be on efforts to eradicate terrorism. Whereas the UK said that after some time, as the President of the Security Council, the UK will focus on the environment, security, women empowerment, and conflicts in poor countries.

The two countries decided to work together for the next two years. India’s term as a temporary member will be two years. The Security Council works through diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes and take decisions.

The British delegation was led by James Cariyuki, Director in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Prakash Gupta, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

At the beginning of the talks, the head of the British party congratulated the election of India on the Security Council.
