India Expresses Concern Over Terrorist Activities In Libya

India expresses concern over the resumption of terrorist activities in Libya and stresses presidential and parliamentary elections: India in UN.

At the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India on Monday expressed deep concern over the re-emergence and activities of terrorist groups in Libya,

India stressed that such affiliated entities should be dealt with force to avoid an escalation of urban warfare.

Speaking at the UNSC briefing on Libya, Ambassador of India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations R Ravindra said, “We are concerned at the resurgence of terrorist activity in Libya.”

“We reiterate that terrorist groups and affiliated entities are not permitted in the country.” He also called for the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the war-torn land.

However, he welcomed the progress that was made at the meeting of the Speakers of the House of Representatives and the State High Council in Geneva at the end of last month (June 28-29, 2022).

“It is imperative that all outstanding political issues be resolved peacefully by the parties concerned, keeping in mind the larger interests of the Libyan people,” the Indian envoy said.

Highlighting the importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, he said, “We hope that all parties will work together to maintain peace and stability in Libya.”

India expresses concern: An urgent priority for Libya is to hold presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, that too in a free, fair, inclusive, and credible manner.

“We look forward to an early agreement between the Libyan parties on constitutional grounds to hold the elections,” he said.

Libya has been mired in violence and unrest since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.
