Recovering from the controversy arising out of the border dispute and the statements of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, India and Nepal have decided to pursue cooperation.

To meet Nepal’s petrol and gas requirements, India is considering laying a supply pipeline there. This possibility was considered in the meeting of the Joint Working Group of the two countries. In the meeting, the two countries considered increasing cooperation in the field of petroleum.

The meeting of this joint working group set up to discuss petroleum products was held through video conferencing. This information has been given by the Indian Embassy. The meeting was attended by Joint Secretary level officials of the respective ministries of the two countries, representatives of the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, officials of Indian oil and gas companies, officials of the Ministry of Finance and Foreign Affairs of Nepal and Nepal Oil Corporation.

At the meeting, representatives of both countries expressed satisfaction over the proper functioning of the Motihari-Amlekhgunj Petroleum Products pipeline. The pipeline was inaugurated in September 2019 by the Prime Ministers of both countries. It is the only pipeline of its kind in South Asia.

With this, most of the petrol and diesel needed for Nepal is sent from India and stored at Amlekhgunj depot. The meeting discussed the laying of new pipelines for supply in Nepal. Also, there was a need to work on new possibilities by increasing cooperation between the petroleum companies of the two countries.

On the other hand, China is engaged in a campaign to capture important ground bases of Nepal. This capture is taking place in many border areas. A few weeks ago, the leaders of the ruling Communist Party protested against it, but they were unheard of.

According to the survey report of Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture, China has made the illegal occupation of land in the seven border districts of Dolakha, Gorkha, Dharchula, Hamad, Sindhupalchok, Sankhuwasabha, and Rasuwa. It is learned that China has extended the border from the Dolkha district within one and a half kilometers of Nepal.
