The Defense Research and Development Institute, the Pune-based unit of DRDO, and the Indian Army’s Mhow-based Infantry School have together demonstrated that India could make its first major indigenous machine pistol.
This machine pistol has been named ‘Asmi’ and it has been told that the cost of its production will be less than Rs 50,000 and there will be a possibility to export it according to the quality.
It is a special type of pistol with self-loading capability. Also, it can be fully automatic and can fire multiple bullets simultaneously. You can think of it as a small machine gun.

Many parts of Asmi are designed and prototyped with 3D printing technology. Metal 3D printing has also been used in the trigger.
In a statement issued by the defense ministry, it was said that face-to-face fighting, the direct war against the enemy, or anti-terrorism operations, the usefulness of the Asmi machine pistol will prove to be very important in all of them.
It is a personal weapon among heavy weapons, which has great firepower. According to reports, the machine pistol belongs to the class of Israeli Uzi guns.
It is capable of firing up to a distance of 100 meters. Where will Asmi be used? For the use of this machine pistol named after the word Asmi, which means pride, self-respect, and hard work.
The Ministry has said that this weapon can prove to be effective for various teams of Central and State Police. VIP security squads and police forces will be provided this.
According to the ministry, this pistol will prove to be powerful as a personal weapon in various operations in the armed forces as well as in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.
It has been told by the Ministry that this weapon has been developed in a record time of four months. Since the cost of this machine pistol will be less than 50 thousand rupees and the quality is much better, so it can also be exported.
Significantly, the news of Asmi’s development came about a month after the development of Carbine, which was developed by ARDE and OFB together.
