Israel airstrikes on Gaza Strip, 7 including Hamas commander killed.

Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Gaza on Friday, killing at least seven people, including a senior Hamas commander, and injuring 40 others.

Palestine officials gave this information. Israel attacked Gaza on Friday amid heightened tensions over the arrest of a senior Palestinian insurgent in the occupied West Bank.

The attack has heightened tensions in the Hamas-ruled region where some two million Palestinians live. After the death of a senior Hamas commander, there is a possibility of rockets being fired from Gaza,

which could lead to another war in the region. An explosion was heard in Gaza City, where smoke was billowing from the seventh floor of a tall building.

The rebel group Hamas said its senior commander Taisir al-Jabri was also killed in the attack.

Palestine’s health ministry said seven people, including a five-year-old girl, were killed and 40 were injured. Israel’s military described the operation as “breaking don”, saying it targeted Islamic jihadists.

Israel has also declared a ‘special situation’ in the country where all schools within 80 km of the border have been closed and other activities of people have been stopped.

Israel closed roads around Gaza earlier this week and sent additional troops to the border in anticipation of an attack following the arrest of a senior Hamas member in the occupied West Bank on Monday.

There have been four wars and several minor skirmishes between Israel and Palestine’s Hamas in 15 years.

The most fierce battle in recent times took place in May 2021 and its fears increased earlier this year as well.

Hamas leader Zail al-Nakhla told Iran via the al-Maydin TV network. “We are starting a fight and the Palestinian resistance will have to stand united against this aggression.”

Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz, visiting settlements near Gaza on Friday, said officials were “taking actions that are necessary for this.”

“We will work with internal resilience and external strength to restore normal life in the south of Israel,” he said. We will not hesitate to protect our citizens.’

Earlier, some Israelis protested near the Gaza Strip on Friday, demanding the return of the bodies of a Hamas-occupied captive and two Israeli soldiers.

The protesters were led by Haider Goldin’s family. Goldin and Oron Shawl were killed in the 2014 Gaza war.
