Jaishankar meets foreign ministers of Norway, the UK, and Iraq discusses Afghanistan and Indo-Pacific issues.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in New York on Monday local time. There he held talks with his counterparts from Norway, Iraq, and Britain.

Jaishankar expressed happiness by holding talks with Britain’s newly-appointed Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

He tweeted and said, ‘My United Nations General Assembly meeting has started. Meeting with Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Soreide.

Appreciate our work together in the Security Council. The Afghanistan issue was briefly discussed. The international community has to work in unison.

Jaishankar meets foreign ministers: He will hold multilateral and bilateral meetings along with UNGA before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to visit the US.

Officials told the media that the External Affairs Minister will attend the G4 foreign ministers’ meeting on September 26.

However, the details of this meeting have not been confirmed yet. The G4 nations are Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan.

Apart from this, several meetings are also expected on the Afghanistan issue. Qatar is also organizing meetings in which India is also expected to attend.

India at the forefront of collective effort to combat terrorism: Tirumurti.

India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations TS Tirumurti has played an active role in the Global Anti-Terrorism Plan.

In an interview with media, he said, ‘India has always been ahead in the collective effort to combat terrorism.’ Tirumurti said that India has been against terror in the past and will continue to do so.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 25 September.

Tirumurti said the COVID-19 pandemic and developments in Afghanistan are expected to dominate the 76th UNGA session.

He said that apart from the COVID-19 pandemic and its humanitarian impact, the issues that are likely to dominate the high-level segment of the session include global economic slowdown, terrorism, and related issues, climate change, ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Africa, are included.
