JK Fake Gun License case: IAS Rajiv Ranjan suspension suspended in fake gun license case.

The government on Monday appointed him an additional secretary in the revenue department after the suspension of Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, an IAS officer accused in the alleged fake gun license case.

The 2010 batch IAS officer Rajiv Ranjan was detained by the CBI for questioning last year. The entire case was disclosed by Rajasthan ATS in 2017 by running Operation Zubaida. The case was later handed over to the CBI.

Rajiv Ranjan was the Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Regulatory Authority Jammu at the time of his detention on 29 February 2020 by the CBI.

He also had the additional charge of chairman of Jammu Development Authority at that time. Taking cognizance of CBI taking custody for questioning, the government suspended him with immediate effect.

Now the General Administrative Department of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has issued an order on Monday to withdraw his suspension and reinstate him in Government service.

It said that the government had constituted a committee on 22 September 2020 to review the suspension of Rajiv Ranjan, a 2010 batch IAS officer of the Jammu and Kashmir cadre.

Based on the recommendations of the review committee, his suspension is canceled and he is restored with immediate effect. The duration of his suspension will be decided separately.

Along with this, he is appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Revenue. He will also hold the additional charge of the CEO of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Records Management Agency till further orders.

JK Fake Gun License case: It was alleged

Rajiv Ranjan has been accused of being the District Deputy Commissioner in Kupwara district during the year 2015-16, ignoring the rules and issuing gun licenses to many people on the basis of fake documents.

Many of these licenses have been issued to the people of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Noida, and Uttar Pradesh.

CBI had filed a case on May 17, 2018, in Jammu and Kashmir for issuing a large number of arms licenses by the District Deputy Commissioners of different districts from 2012 to 2016.

During the investigation, many questions were raised on the role of Rajiv Ranjan. The investigation also revealed the issuance of licenses with money. Jyoti Ranjan, Rajiv Ranjan’s elder brother, was also arrested in this case.

Many bureaucrats came into the circle.

Before Rajiv Ranjan was detained for questioning, the CBI team raided the homes of several bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir.

It was the bureaucrats who were or have been District Deputy Commissioners in various districts and many licenses were issued during his tenure.

On December 30, 2019, CBI raided the houses of IAS officers Yasha Mudgal, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, Itrat Hussain Rafiqi, Mohammad Salim, Mohammad Junaid Khan, FC Bhagat, Farooq Ahmed Khan, and Jahangir Ahmed.

Earlier on July 10, 2019, the investigating agency also raided 11 places in Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, and Srinagar and recovered documents related to the case.
