Terrorists hiding in the Rebin Chattargam area of South Kashmir’s District Shopian managed to escape from the encounter site taking advantage of the residential area.
According to information received from police sources, the encounter started in the morning when the security personnel was evacuating the people living in the adjoining houses.
Only then did these terrorists manage to break the siege of the security forces by passing through the adjoining houses.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area in search of terrorists.
The security forces claim that the terrorists have not gone far yet. They may have left this locality and hid in another neighborhood adjacent to it. Search for him is going on.
The whole area is being cordoned off. There is also a blockade on all the exits.
According to police sources, it was only after the information that two to three terrorists were hiding in the area, that the SOG personnel of JKP along with the army started this operation.
J&K Shopian Encounter: The encounter between security forces and terrorists started on Monday night.
On the basis of information received from the sources, SOG personnel along with the army battalion reached the Rebin Chattargam area of Shopian at around 11.30 pm on Monday and started searching for the terrorists.
When these terrorists hiding in a house saw the security forces coming near them, they started firing on the security forces. Security forces also retaliated.
The security forces started cordoning off the house so that the terrorists should not escape taking advantage of the darkness at night.
Unable to escape from the encounter site, the terrorists continued to open fire on the security forces intermittently throughout the night.
As soon as the first rays of the sun fell in the morning, the security forces appealed to the terrorists to surrender. When the terrorists did not agree, the security forces also intensified the firing.
It is being told that these terrorists were hiding in a residential area. Efforts were being made to evacuate the people living in nearby houses safely amid the encounter.
Meanwhile, the terrorists took advantage of the busyness of the security forces and through other adjoining houses, they were successful in breaking the siege of the security forces.
The security forces have launched a search operation in search of the terrorists.
