Journalists are in bad condition in Pakistan. The risk of journalism in the country is increasing day by day.

In the past several days, news of journalists being harassed, threatened, attacked, and shot at has been coming out from Pakistan.

At the same time, Azam Chaudhary, now president of the Lahore Press Club, said that more than 200 Pakistani journalists in Lahore are facing “harassment and arrest” at the hands of security agencies.

Not only this, he alleged that some of the detained journalists were subjected to severe torture.

Violence erupted after Imran Khan’s arrest.

The Lahore Press Club president said that the journalists who were arrested had launched a massive crackdown against those involved in the May 9 attacks on Pakistan Army installations.

Azam Chowdhury said, “These media persons were performing their duties on May 9 at various places in Lahore, Liberty Chowk, Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence, and outside the Corps Commander’s House in Cantonment.”

Chowdhury further said that the names of these journalists have been placed in a list of ‘terrorists and suspects’ involved in attacks on military installations, police vans, and government buildings.

Around 8,000 people were arrested.

Explain that law enforcement agencies have arrested around 8,000 people across the country, mostly party leaders and workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party of former PM Imran Khan.

These people are alleged to have been involved in the violence that broke out after the arrest of Imran Khan on May 9. More than half of those arrested were from Punjab province.

Over 500 women booked under ATA.

You may be aware that after the arrest of Imran Khan, major incidents took place in many places across the country.

On May 9, Punjab’s Acting Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that 138 cases were registered in connection with the incidents of May 9 across Punjab,

More than 500 wanted persons have been arrested. The women will be tried under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz, the main organizer of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, also demanded “stern action” against the women PTI workers involved in the attacks.
