Karnataka CM Handed Over Check Of Rs 25 Lakh To Naveen’s Kin

Karnataka CM handed over a check of Rs 25 lakh to the relatives of Naveen, a student killed in Ukraine.

Karnataka Chief Minister (CM) Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday handed over a check of Rs 25 lakh to the kin of Naveen Shekharappa, a medical student killed during a Russian attack in Ukraine.

The Chief Minister has also promised a job to a family member. At the same time, the Chief Minister has said that efforts are on bringing Naveen’s body home.

The Chief Minister said, ‘I handed over a check of Rs 25 lakh to Naveen Shekharappa’s family. We will also give jobs to one member of the family.

Naveen’s body will be brought to India as soon as possible. I am in touch with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other officials.

Apart from this, talks are also going on with the Indian Embassy in Ukraine.

The Ministry of External Affairs had informed about Naveen’s death on March 1.

The ministry had said that Naveen Shekharappa, a student of the Haveri district of Karnataka, who was studying in the fourth year of MBBS in Kharkiv, Ukraine, died.

Naveen, a 21-year-old Indian student, was standing in a queue to buy food when the attack took place.

Russia’s attacks in Ukraine have been ongoing since the end of February.

Due to the ongoing crisis situation there, the Government of India has started Operation Ganga Abhiyan for the safe return of its citizens.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that till Saturday, a total of 21,000 Indians had left Ukraine. Of these, 13,300 Indians have been brought home through 63 flights through Operation Ganga.

About four thousand citizens had already arrived in India by commercial flights. At present 2,500 Indians are in countries located on the western border of Ukraine.

The pressure over the southwest Bay of Bengal moved southwestwards with a speed of about 07 kmph during the last six hours and lay centered over the same area.

This pressure was 260 km east-northeast of about 310 km north-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka).
