Karnataka’s Education Minister Praised The NEP

Karnataka’s education minister praised the national education policy, said – students will benefit.

The Higher Education Minister of Karnataka, Dr. CN Ashwathnarayan has appreciated the National Education Policy.

During the inauguration ceremony of a government engineering college in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district on Saturday, he said that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will greatly benefit the students.

“This government engineering college will offer courses in two most relevant branches of automobile engineering and artificial intelligence and machine learning, with 60 students each, he said.

The college, built at a cost of Rs.62.80 crore, has a 15-acre campus, with state-of-the-art infrastructure to be commissioned from the current academic year itself.

He further said that the government has started these branches with the increasing importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in all sectors including agriculture and promotion of electric vehicles at the national and global levels.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said that the state is ready to discuss the implementation of NEP-2020.

For this, a committee has been constituted to decide on primary and secondary schools in the state.

Earlier this month, Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister Ashwathnarayana had lauded the policy and said that it would take the freedom of the student to the subject level.

On July 29, 2020, the Union Cabinet had approved the National Policy on Education (NEP) 2020, which includes major reforms in higher education including a target of 50 percent Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by 2035.

NEP 2020 includes providing vocational education from class 6 onwards, progress cards instead of report cards, 5+3+3+4 structure, multidisciplinary education with easy entry/exit options, and academic bank of credit.
