The mesmerizing valleys of Kashmir may soon witness nature’s intense display as the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (DMA) has issued a warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next 40 hours. From Anantnag to Budgam, residents are advised to remain cautious as the weather turns unpredictable.

According to officials, certain sensitive areas could experience cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides. This calls for utmost vigilance. Locals are urged to avoid riverbanks, drains, and damaged structures, and to dial 112 in case of emergencies.

Kashmir Faces Heavy Rain & Landslides: The ongoing series of rains has already caused significant disruptions.

On Jyotipuram Salal road, a landslide in Teni Khad blocked the route early Monday morning. Debris removal efforts are underway with heavy machinery, but the road remains partially inaccessible. Passengers traveling for essential purposes had to cross the blocked sections on foot or switch vehicles to continue their journey.

Similarly, in Reasi, the relentless rains have become a serious concern. Roads in the hilly region are disrupted due to multiple landslide incidents, with authorities enforcing night-time traffic bans on the Reasi Mahor road for safety. Tragically, a goods carrier driver lost his life in a landslide at Malai Nala, and two others were injured.

Government and private schools in Reasi will remain closed

Education has also paused as a precaution. Both government and private schools in Reasi will remain closed on Tuesday, following the directive issued by the Directorate of School Education Jammu, after meteorological alerts indicated continued heavy rainfall.

With the rainfall in Jammu breaking 99-year records this August, residents and travelers must stay updated on live weather alerts, road conditions, and emergency protocols. Whether you’re commuting, planning work, or simply venturing out, safety comes first.
