Security forces have been conducting an operation for the last 12 days to search for terrorists. It is reported that the three terrorists are hiding in a forest area of Kathua. Security agencies are also cracking down on supporters of terrorists and are carrying out ambushes.
Additional troops have been deployed to strengthen the multi-layered cordon and ambush within a radius of 6 to 7 kilometers in the area to nab the terrorists. An officer said that the search operation is continuing. This operation is going on to capture the escaped terrorists.

The search operation has been intensified with aerial surveillance including the use of helicopters, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and sniffer dogs. Officials said that joint teams of the Army, NSG, Police, SOG, CRPF, and BSF are carrying out search operations across the area.
They said that additional troops have been deployed in rugged terrain and dense forests to ensure that the terrorists do not escape to the upper areas. The soldiers have laid several ambushes in a large area to catch the terrorists.
They have also expanded the area of operation to include Billawar, Bhaddu, Ghatti and Kog-Mandali. Officials said that to eliminate the overground network supporting the terrorists, security agencies are focusing on OGWs and taking action against them to stop the supply of food, shelter and guidance in the hills.
Over 27 persons have been questioned to gather information about the movements of terrorists. During the operation, the terrorists also broke into two houses to escape with food.
Security agencies have stressed that it is difficult for terrorists to survive without a network that provides them food, shelter, and guidance from the International Border (IB) to the hills in Kathua as well as Doda, Kishtwar, and Udhampur districts.

Security forces have detained six persons, including three women of the same family, for questioning. Officials said they are accused of assisting terrorists active in the area. The detainees belong to the family of suspected overground worker Mohammad Latif, who is already in jail under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for assisting terrorists in Malhar during the attack on an Army truck last year. Six soldiers were martyred in the Malhar terror attack. It is believed that the killed terrorist Abu Tala also stayed at Latif’s house.
