At the same time, it is reported that slater houses will continue to operate in the state and there will be no ban on the consumption of buffalo meat as verification of the competent authority does not ban the killing of male and female buffalo older than 13 years.
Going against the laws applicable to cow slaughter in Karnataka can be very expensive. The ordinance provides for a punishment of three to seven years for killing Godhan and a fine ranging from 50 thousand to five lakh rupees.
There is a provision of seven years’ punishment for committing another offense and a fine ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
In this, ‘Cattle’ is defined as cows of all ages, cow calves, bulls, bulls, and male and female buffalo under 13 years of age. Whereas Beef is defined as the meat of Cattle in any form.
The Government of Karnataka recently said, ‘All the provisions of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance, 2020 will come into force from 18 January.’
Explain that earlier this month, State Governor Vajubhai Vala approved the Slaughter Protection and Cattle Protection Bill-2020 in Karnataka, which was passed in the state assembly on 9 December 2020.
The state government had said in its order that the ordinance is intended to provide comprehensive legislation for the slaughter and protection of cows in the state.
Opposition parties had alleged that the bill, now a law, was not discussed in the meeting of the Trade Advisory Committee.
