Leadership crisis in Radical Hurriyat Conference after Ashraf Sehrai’s death.

The hardline faction of the Hurriyat has now become disenchanted following the non-active participation of hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani from the Hurriyat Conference and the death of Mohammad Ashraf Sahrai.

In 1993, nearly two dozen separatist organizations, including the Jamaat-e-Islami, People’s Conference, JKLF, Awami Action Committee, People’s League, Anjuman-e-Shariyan-e-Shia, Ittehadul Muslimeen, Muslim Conference, formed the Hurriyat Conference.

Leadership crisis in Radical Hurriyat Conference: In the year 2000, the Hurriyat Conference was transformed into two factions, the Liberal and the Radical faction.

In the year 2003, it broke and the faction led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who openly advocated the annexation of Kashmir into Pakistan, became a radical and Geelani faction.

The faction led by Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq came to be called a liberal faction. Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of one faction, and Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq, chairman of another faction.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani, along with creating a pro-Pakistan radical faction of Hurriyat, also formed an organization called Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Kashmir, breaking ties with the Jamaat.

Mohammad Ashraf Sahrai who is considered to be his closest. Leaving the Jamaat and joined him.

Sahrai also contested the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on the ticket of Jamaat-e-Islami, but he never won. However, Syed Ali Shah Geelani must have been a three-time MLA.

Gandhi Nagar Shootout: The bail application of the five accused who attacked Nagar Singh’s house was rejected by City Judge Jammu Manjeet Rai.

The lawyer has filed the bail application of five accused, Amandeep Singh, Rakesh Chaudhary, Surendra Singh, Vijay Kumar and Rishabh Bhatt, in connection with the firing at the house of Jammu’s main contractor Nagar Singh alias Nago.

Gandhi Nagar Police has registered a case in this matter. City Judge Jammu, while dismissing the bail pleas of the accused, said that the investigation in the case is in preliminary stages and release of the accused on bail could affect the investigation of the case.

According to the police case, on April 3, 2021, at around ten o’clock at night, five-six people, riding in two-three vehicles, reached outside the house located in Gandhi Nagar Green Belt Park of Nago and fired inside the gate with the intention of killing Nago.

According to the police case, Nagar Singh, his son, his brother Rakesh Singh and Jagar Singh and Royal Singh were charged in the Amandeep murder case.

The son of Nagar Singh died in jail and Nagar Singh, Rakesh Singh and Jagar Singh were acquitted. Royal Singh was sentenced to life imprisonment in the case.
