Lessons from the floods of Bengaluru, and poor urban planning caused water logging after rain in the past.

News of waterlogging after the recent heavy rains in Bengaluru caught the attention of the entire nation. Many people had to leave their homes and go to safer places.

There is also fear of widespread economic loss due to this. In fact, the effects of climate change are coming to the fore all over the world.

Be it the floods in Bangladesh or Pakistan, the extreme rains in parts of Rajasthan and Bengaluru have shown how the effects of climate change are unfolding in South Asia.

The United Nations IPCC warned last year that extreme weather events across South Asia would increase in the coming years if carbon emissions remained unchecked.

Our cities are at greater risk with increasing urbanization, as the amount of loss of human life, property damage, and economic loss are higher as compared to rural areas.

Cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Chennai are home to millions of people and the climate risk is so high.
