Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh have apprehended two ULFA-I cadres, Nilutpal Asom and Upen Asom, who entered from Myanmar.

Security forces on Monday (October 2) arrested two ULFA-I cadres in Arunachal Pradesh. Giving information, police said that security forces arrested ULFA cadres during an operation in Tirap district.

Based on inputs, a joint team of the Khonsa battalion of Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested the rebels on Sunday, a state police officer said.

These rebels had entered Arunachal Pradesh from Myanmar and were trying to enter Assam.

Two ULFA-I cadres arrested by Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh: Weapons recovered from both.

The two cadres have been identified as Nilutpal Asom alias Monjeet Gogoi and Upen Asom alias Ruhini Gogoi, the Arunachal Police official said.

Both are residents of Assam and were recruited into the organization last year. One .32 and one 9 mm pistol were recovered from the duo, the officer said.

This year alone, there have been several arrests and surrenders of ULFA(I) cadres in the southern areas of Arunachal Pradesh, the official said.

The continuous action has dealt a blow to the activities of the banned organization ULFA-I. Let us tell you that ULFA-I is a militant organization active in the North-East and Assam.

This organization demands making Assam an independent state through violent struggle. The Indian government banned it in the year 1990 and also declared it a terrorist organization.
