Mehbooba Mufti: Central government is harassing Kashmiri politicians who are not bowing down’, Wahid is also one of them.
Peoples Democratic Party President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti have accused the central government of harassing the Kashmiri leaders who did not bow down to them.
She said that the arrest of Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, the head of PDP’s youth unit is a testimony to the pathetic condition of Kashmiri leaders.
Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, belonging to Pulwama district, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 25 November 2020 on charges of alleged links with Nawid Babu, the commander of the terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen.
Para had submitted his nomination papers to participate in the District Development Council Pulwama elections even before his arrest. He has managed to win his seat, but to date, he has not been administered an oath by the administration.
He was also granted bail by a special NIA court but was taken into his custody by the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s counter-intelligence wing Kashmir (CIK).
Expressing strong displeasure over the continued detention of Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Mehbooba Mufti has written on her Twitter handle that Kashmiri political forces feel the same situation today as the mercury being tortured by the Indian government.
On the one hand, due to faith in the Indian Constitution, no one believes in them in Kashmir, no one likes them and on the other hand, seeing them bowing down to themselves, the Central Government is also harassing them.
The PDP president cited the interest in Waheed ur Rehman Para’s political activities, saying that Para’s grandfather hoisted the tricolor at a time when most people in Kashmir avoided it.
Waheed started taking interest in politics since childhood. He often accompanied his grandfather to the home of a local legislator and carefully watched political debates and activities taking place there.
His mother was always afraid that Waheed might become a target of terrorists due to his political interest. Sadly, she lost her life in this fear. When she died, Waheed was still in his teens.
She wrote in another tweet that the system in which Waheed expressed his faith, for which he remained loyal, today that system is harassing him with a sense of revenge. He has contested and won the DDC election while in illegal custody.
Despite being granted bail by the NIA court, he was arrested again by CIK on unknown charges. Kyei is also not strong evidence to prove these allegations.
Despite this, the Government of India is arresting Waheed through one agency or sometimes from another security agency. This is just a political vendetta. It is a conspiracy to end the life of a 32-year-old young and energetic leader.
The PDP President said that now the judiciary is the last hope for this young politician. I hope that one day truth and justice prevail.
