Mehul Choksi Sent To A Quarantine Center In Dominica

Mehul Choksi sent to a quarantine center in Dominica, local opposition parties against extradition.

Fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi wanted in an Indian bank fraud case, has been shifted to the Government Quarantine Center in Dominica.

Choksi, who was reported missing from Antigua and Barbuda, was caught in neighboring Dominica. India has sent all documents related to Choksi’s crimes to Dominica by special aircraft.

The High Court of Dominica has barred Choksi from being taken away from it and further action will be decided in this case only after a hearing in open court on June 2.

Efforts to bring the fugitive businessman back to India have been intensified. According to leading news agency, several agencies are in touch with the Dominica government on the issue.

Agencies state that Choksi is an Indian citizen by origin and has entered a new country to evade the law in India after committing fraud to the tune of around USD two billion, he took citizenship.

At the same time, India has explicitly stated to Dominica through diplomatic means that Choksi should be treated as a fugitive Indian citizen against whom Interpol has a Red Corner notice.

He should be handed over to the Indian authorities for deportation. Explain that a Dominican court has extended its order banning Choksi’s extradition from Dominica until 2 June.

The High Court will also hear the habeas corpus petition of the Indian fugitive on the new date.

On the other hand, about Choksi, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne have said that Choksi may have gone to the neighboring country Dominica by boat to have dinner or spend time with his girlfriend and was caught there.

This would be a historical mistake because Choksi is a citizen in Antigua and we cannot extradite him. Brown told the Redisha show that the aircraft had arrived from India with the documents required for Choksi’s extradition.

Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi allegedly embezzled an amount of Rs 13,500 crore from Punjab National Bank. Nirav Modi is lodged in a London jail and is fighting a case against extradition to India.

While Choksi took citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda in 2017 and fled India in the first week of January 2018. Only after this scam came to light.
