Meta Clears Its Stand Regarding Removal Of FB & IG From Europe

Meta clears its stand regarding the removal of Facebook and Instagram from Europe, know the whole thing here.

Meta has said it has no intention of removing WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook from Europe. However, it had indicated in its annual report that it may have to do so due to stricter data laws.

The European government wants to prevent Meta from sending data from Europe to servers in the US.

At the same time, Meta, the company that earns about 98 percent of its revenue from advertising, says that this will limit its ability to target ads.

Let us tell you that the EU and the US agreed in 2016 on a data transfer framework for data transferred from the EU to the US, also known as the Privacy Shield, but the EU Court of Justice in July 2020.

This consent was invalidated in America stating that Privacy Shield entitles US authorities to obtain personal data on EU residents without appropriate safeguards and effective redressal mechanisms.

Meta clears its stand: 70 other companies also do data transfer.

On Monday, Meta said it had no intention of leaving Europe. Meta, like many other businesses, organizations, and services, relies on data transfer between the EU and the US to operate its global services.

Meta reported that they are not the only ones who do. It said there are at least 70 other companies, including 10 European businesses, that do this.

Meta is said to be within the ambit of the law, but not within the national limit.

Meta reported that international data transfer underpins the global economy and supports many services.

For many years the legal framework supporting the transfer of data across the Atlantic has faced serious problems. The Safe Harbor Agreement was annulled by the European Court of Justice in 2015.

Last summer the Privacy Shield, which was used by more than 5,000 companies on both sides of the Atlantic, was also invalidated by the European Court of Justice.

These decisions are based on the conflict between EU and US laws over the protection of data.

We want to see the fundamental rights of EU users protected and we want the Internet to continue operating in compliance with laws and not limited by national boundaries.
