As far as fugitive diamond trader Nirav Modi is concerned, Britain’s Home Minister Priti Patel had issued an order to extradite him to India on 15 April.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that Nirav wants to appeal against this order but is in custody. We will ensure that he is extradited to India at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the Dominica government has declared Mehul Choksi as a banned immigrant in his country. In this context, the Ministry of National Security and Home Affairs of Dominica has issued an order.

The order, signed by Dominica Minister Rayburn Blackmoor, also directed to take necessary action to deport a restricted immigrant from Dominica in accordance with the procedure outlined in the Immigration Act.

Not only this, the Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerritt has called Choksi as an Indian citizen.

The court will decide what to do with the fugitive, but the government will protect the rights of Choksi, who is awaiting trial, he said.

To recall, Choksi went missing from Antigua and Barbuda on May 23 and was reportedly captured in Dominica on May 26.

Earlier, Choksi appeared before the local magistrate in Dominica and pleaded innocent in the illegal entry case.

Choksi’s lawyer alleged that he was kidnapped by Antigua and Indian-looking policemen and forcibly brought to Dominica on a yacht.

Let us inform that Choksi had taken Antigua citizenship in the year 2017 and fled from India on January 4, 2018.

It is worth mentioning that Nirav Modi (50) allegedly along with his maternal uncle Mehul Choksi had done a scam of Rs 13 thousand crore with Punjab National Bank.

He has been lodged in London’s Wandsworth Prison since March 2019. Britain’s Home Minister Priti Patel has given permission for the extradition of Nirav Modi.
