Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav have passed away at the age of 82.
He breathed his last at 8:16 am today (October 10) at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. Confirming the death, SP President Akhilesh Yadav said, “My respected Pita Ji and everyone’s leader is no more.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was admitted to the hospital on 22 August after complaining of shortness of breath and low blood pressure.
His health was not improving and on the night of 1 October, he was shifted to the ICU, where a panel of doctors was treating him. The body of Mulayam Singh Yadav will be taken to Saifai for the last glimpse.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on 22 November 1939 in Saifai village of Etawah district in the farmer family of Murti Devi and Sugar Singh Yadav.
He was younger than Ratan Singh Yadav and elder than Abhayram Singh Yadav, Shivpal Singh Yadav, Rajpal Singh, and Kamala Devi among his five siblings.
Professor Ramgopal Yadav is his cousin. Father Sugar Singh wanted to make him a wrestler.
Mulayam Singh Yadav started his political journey from Jaswant Nagar, the traditional assembly constituency of Nathu Singh.
After influencing his political guru Chaudhary Natthu Singh in a wrestling competition organized in Mainpuri.
Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh three times.
Before joining politics, Mulayam Singh Yadav was appointed spokesperson in the Inter College after doing his post-graduation (MA) in Political Science and BT from Agra University.
He resigned from the job after joining active politics. He was a member of the Legislative Council from 1982-1985.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, who took an active part in the Lohia movement, founded the Samajwadi Party on October 4, 1992. He was called a skilled wrestler in the political arena.
As long as he remained in active politics, he was adept at pinning down his rivals. As the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the country’s largest state, he took command three times.
He was also the Defense Minister of the country. He was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly 8 times.

In 1967, Mulayam Singh became an MLA for the first time. After this, on 5 December 1989, he became the Chief Minister of the state for the first time.
He proceeded in politics while living in the Socialist Party, Praja Socialist Party. In the years 1967, 1974, 1977, 1985, and 1989, he was a member of the UP Legislative Assembly.
He was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice, from 5 December 1989 to 24 January 1991, from 5 December 1993 to 3 June 1996 and from 29 August 2003 to 11 May 2007.
He was also a member of the Lok Sabha. He reached Parliament for the first time by winning from Mainpuri in the year 1996. He won this seat in 1998 as well.
In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections also, his winning streak from Mainpuri was going on. In the year 2004 also he won the Lok Sabha elections from Mainpuri.
After this, in 2014, he contested from both Azamgarh parliamentary seat and the Mainpuri seat. Won from both places, but retained Azamgarh’s seat.
The winning streak of this veteran SP leader continued in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as well and reached Parliament by winning once again from Mainpuri.
