Myanmar army dropped bombs near the Indian border, and 17 including nine children were killed in an air strike.
At least 17 civilians, including nine children, were killed in military air strikes on a village in Myanmar’s northwest. About 20 people have also been injured.
Local people and human rights activists claim that the airstrike took place in the morning on Kanan village in Khampat town of Sagaing region, just south of the Indian border.
However, the military government refused to take responsibility for the attack and claimed that there was no truth in the news.
Many organizations have taken up arms after the military ousted the elected government of Aung San Suu-Ki in February 2021.
Since then, there has been a conflict going on between the army and them in large parts of the country. Over the past two years, the military government has stepped up airstrikes against the rebels.
Three bombs were dropped on Kanan village.
A resident who helped with the rescue effort told the news agency on Sunday that a jet fighter dropped three bombs on the village of Kanan on the outskirts of Khampat.
Due to this, 17 civilians living in the village school and surrounding buildings died.
A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that about 10 houses near the school were destroyed by the bombs. Most of the residents of Khampat city are minority Christians.
Another eyewitness, speaking on condition of anonymity, also provided photos of the attack’s aftermath to the news agency, including dead and injured people and damaged buildings.
State MRTV television cited an unnamed official as saying that no planes were flying in the area on Sunday morning.
