Mysore Police Has Banned Rallies And Protests Till Sunday

Mysore Police has banned rallies and protests till Sunday, Section-144 implemented in the city: Hijab Row.

Protests are taking place across the country over the hijab controversy. Meanwhile, in view of the hijab controversy, the Mysore Police has banned rallies and protests till Sunday to maintain law and order.

Also, Section-144 has been implemented in the city. According to an order issued by Municipal Police Commissioner Chandragupta.

This order will remain in force from February 12 (6 am) to February 13 (10 pm). No protests or rallies will be allowed in the district during this period.

Actually, the protest against Hijab started on 4th February at Government Girls PU College in the Udupi district of Karnataka.

When some students alleged that they were stopped from attending classes. During protests, some students were denied entry to the college earlier this month by Muslim women wearing hijabs.

However, on Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court also appealed to the student community and the public to maintain peace while hearing various petitions challenging the ban on hijab in the state.

Earlier, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to hear urgent petitions related to the hijab controversy in Karnataka.

A bench of Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Justices AS Bopanna and Hema Kohli said that they will look into the issue at an appropriate time.

As we are monitoring the High Court hearing and we also have to see whether the issue is taken up at the national level. 

Significantly, in view of the hijab controversy, the Karnataka government has extended the holidays in universities and colleges in the state till February 16.

Karnataka Higher Education Minister CN Ashwath Narayan issued a statement saying that at present the classes will be conducted online.

However, the exams will be held on time. Earlier, the government had decided to start classes for schools up to class 10 from February 14 while for pre-university and degree colleges after that.
